Reins & Reading at Algun Dia Ranch is a unique literacy and confidence-building program that combines engaging reading activities with meaningful interactions alongside horses. Sessions are designed to help children grow in communication, problem-solving, self-confidence, and a love of learning.

No. All activities are ground-based and unmounted. Children work with the horses from the ground in a safe, supportive environment.

Not at all! No prior horse experience is necessary. We welcome children who are meeting horses for the very first time.

Sessions typically last 45–60 minutes, depending on the needs, attention span, and comfort level of the child and the horses.

For safety and comfort, children should wear:

  • Long pants
  • Closed-toe shoes or boots (boots are preferred)
  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for outdoor activities and the weather

Please park in front of the yellow barn and plan to arrive a few minutes early so sessions can begin on time.

That’s perfectly okay! Many children begin with little or no experience around horses. We introduce interactions gradually and prioritize creating a calm, encouraging environment where children can build confidence at their own pace.

Because each session is reserved specifically for your child and the horses involved, missed sessions generally cannot be rescheduled or made up.

Safety is our top priority. Children are taught basic horse safety, including walking calmly, using quiet voices, approaching horses correctly, and always following instructor directions. Every activity is designed with the well-being of both children and horses in mind.
